This conference will focus on creating a positive school culture that supports academic success and provides a safe teaching and learning environment.
- Hear a keynote address by Ivan Juzang, a nationally recognized expert on urban teens, youth violence and founder of MEE Productions, a unique and groundbreaking research and communications company
- Hear from state and national experts about the latest research in school safety and violence prevention
- Learn about effective program models and promising practices
- Conference agenda includes: 9 full-day institutes on Monday, May 5, 2008; and over 20 workshops on Tuesday, May 6, 2008
- An Internet Safety course for law enforcement personnel on Monday, May 5, 2008
- Hear a keynote address by Nancy E. Willard, M.S., J.D., a nationally known expert and author on safe and responsible internet use on Wednesday, May 7, 2008; followed by four Plenary sessions
- Conference adjourns at noon on Wednesday, May 7, 2008

The 2008 Safe Schools Conference will be held at the Hilton Harrisburg, 1 North 2nd Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101; phone: 717-233-6000; www.harrisburg.hilton.com. Overnight rooms at the special conference rate may no longer be available for all nights. Please call the hotel directly to inquire about current availability and rates.
There is limited availability at nearby hotels as follows:
- The Crowne Plaza at a rate of $114 plus tax. The Crowne Plaza is one block from the Hilton at 21 S. 2nd Street, Harrisburg. The phone number is (717) 234-5021. Ask for the Safe Schools Conference room rate. Hotel parking is valet only at a rate of $14 per day.
- The Radisson Penn Harris, approximately 5 minutes away from the Hilton, at 1150 Camp Hill Bypass, Camp Hill has rooms available at a rate of $95 plus tax. Phone (717) 763-7117. Ask for the Safe Schools Conference room rate. Hotel offers complimentary on-site parking.
Parking Information
Parking for this event is available at the Hilton Harrisburg, Walnut Street Garage, located at 215 Walnut Street.
If the Walnut Street Garage is full and you are unable to enter, the next parking location is Market Square Garage, located at 2nd and Chestnut Streets. If the Market Square Garage is full and you are unable to enter, the next parking location is Locust Street Garage, located at 214 Locust Street. These garages will honor the Hilton discounted rate.

Act 48 Credits:
The Center for Schools and Communities, as a division of the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, offers Act 48 professional development credit for those with Pennsylvania teaching or administrative certificates. Participants must attend the workshop from beginning to end to receive credit. If you are interested in receiving Act 48 credit, please check the appropriate box on the registration form.
Please note: In order to receive Act 48 credit you MUST list your Professional ID # on the appropriate Act 48 paperwork supplied at the event. If you are unsure of your Professional ID # you can look it up prior to the event, by going to the Pennsylvania Department of Education website (www.pde.state.pa.us) and clicking on the "Act 48 Reporting System" link under the Access Services column and then click on the "Get Your Professional Personnel ID" link and complete the required information.
