2012 School Security Officer Institutes

The Center for Safe Schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education will present a series of 18 regionally-based School Security Officer Institutes offered at nine locations throughout the Commonwealth. The Institute is designed for school security officers working in Pennsylvania elementary and secondary schools. Each of these four-day training events is designed to provide school security officers with best practice information and techniques to assist them in functioning effectively in the school setting and will provide Pennsylvania-specific information. The course uses a combination of classroom and interactive techniques including classroom lecture, PowerPoint presentations, video presentations, handout materials and practical scenarios. Safe Schools 2011-2012 Professional Development Series

The Center for Safe Schools is pleased to announce the 2011-2012 professional development series to increase the capacity of schools to prepare and respond to school-based emergencies. Courses will be held in November and December of 2011, and in March and April of 2012. Each session will be offered six times, at locations throughout the commonwealth. Topics include: Introduction to School Safety Planning; Hazard Vulnerability Assessment for Schools; Planning for Parent/Child Reunification After a Crisis; and Preparing School Safety Memorandums of Understanding.

Bullying and Suicide: What Educators Need to Know

Presenters Dr. Sue Limber and Dr. Mary Margaret Kerr, experts in bullying and crisis prevention/response, address issues of adolescent suicide and bullying experiences. This online session was hosted by the Center for Safe Schools with funding provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Highmark Foundation.
