The Pennsylvania Department of Education in Partnership with the Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency and Center for Safe Schools is pleased to announce the 2010 Safe Schools Conference: Keeping Our Children Safe: Strategies for Schools and Communities.
Plan now to attend this statewide conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania at the Hilton Harrisburg on May 3-5, 2010. Registration for this event will open no later than Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
The conference provides an opportunity to learn about the latest research in school safety and violence prevention; hear about effective program models and practices from state and national experts; and network with your colleagues. This conference will focus on creating a positive school culture that supports academic success and provides a safe teaching and learning environment.
Courses will be offered on all four areas of all-hazards planning: Prevention/Mitigation; Preparedness; Response and Recovery.
Who should attend? School administrators, student support personnel, teachers, school nurses, SAP team members, school resource officers, local law enforcement, and other community partners.
There is no registration fee to attend. Breakfast and lunch provided each day.
Participants are responsible for their own lodging and travel costs and arrangements.
Please make your hotel arrangements now. Rooms will quickly sell out and the special conference rate of $126.00 will only be available through Friday, March 26, 2010.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education, in Partnership with the Center for Safe Schools, is pleased to announce 2010 Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth Conference: Preparing Students for Lifelong Academic and Social Success.
There is no registration fee to attend this conference. Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. Participants are responsible for their own lodging, travel costs and arrangements. Details will be posted as they become available. Online registration will be available by or before April 1, 2010.

Save the Date for the 2010 Governor’s Institute for Educators
Plan now to attend the 2010 Governor’s Institute on Improving Academic Success through Positive School Culture, July 25-30, 2010 at Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, PA. The Institute is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and coordinated by the Center for Safe Schools. Be sure to check the Center for Safe Schools’ website periodically for more details.
Delay or Cancellation Procedures:
Due to inclement weather (snow, ice, flooding, etc.) or other emergencies workshops may be delayed or cancelled. Registrants are responsible for calling the Center for Safe Schools Automated Voice Messaging System at (717) 763-1661, Option 3 after 6:30 a.m. the day of the conference/workshop. The system is updated as conditions change, so it is necessary to call for any changes prior to leaving for your scheduled conference/workshop.
