PA CARES Bullying Prevention Grant Application
Announcement of new GRANT FUNDING to prevent bullying in Pennsylvania Schools
The Center for Safe Schools, through a unique partnership with the Highmark Foundation, its Healthy High 5 Initiative, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education, is pleased to announce the availability of grants of up to $7500 for Pennsylvania schools to address the serious issue of bullying.
The Center for Safe Schools will administer a new initiative called PA CARES (Creating an Atmosphere of Respect and Environment for Success). This initiative will help schools implement the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) to address bullying and provide safe and nurturing learning environments. The Olweus program is an evidence-based intervention known to reduce bullying behaviors in schools and is one of only 11 'Blueprints for Violence Prevention' Model Programs.
Approximately 30 grants will be awarded in the 2007-08 school year, with additional grants awarded through 2009-10.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS - Grants must be targeted to:
- Elementary, middle or junior high schools;
- School buildings NOT previously implementing the Olweus program;
- Public or private schools; and
- Schools whose districts are located partly or wholly within a Highmark service region. (*A list of counties within the Highmark service region appears at the end of this notice. Please check the list to determine if your school district operates within one of these counties).
Schools selected for participation in the PA CARES initiative will receive:
- A one-time grant of up to $7500; and
- On-going training and technical assistance to implement the OBPP for a three year period beginning in the 2007-2008 school year.
To apply:
- Schools must complete the online application (applications will NOT be accepted by mail or fax);
- The online application must be completed by JANUARY 25, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. Schools will be notified of selection status by mid-February, 2008.
- Download and read a printable copy of the application with instructions.
- Download a modifiable Word document of the required Letter of Assurance. The signed Letter of Assurance must be submitted within 72 hours of submitting the online application.
- Complete the application online. Internet access is required. It will take about 30 minutes to complete the application. Click here to access the online application.
