About Mission Homefront
Mission Homefront, in partnership with Operation: Military Kids, the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and the Pennsylvania Department of Education, addresses the needs of children and families affected by military deployment, particularly as it relates to academic achievement. Mission Homefront is designed to educate and provide resources for Pennsylvania’s school personnel and families who are struggling with the impact of deployment.
Since September 11, 2001, over 35,000 children in Pennsylvania have at least one parent currently serving in the National Guard, Reserve, or Active Duty component of the military. Many of these children have been affected by the deployment of their parent(s), family member, friends and even teachers in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
Mission Homefront areas of focus include:
- Presenting essential facts regarding military deployment
- Providing professional development opportunities to help educators understand deployment and its impact on children
- Assisting schools in identifying the number of students in their district affected by deployment
- Offering strategies to support students and their families before, during and after deployment
Reinforcing the critical role of parents and educators in providing stability during the challenges of deployment.
