The Safe Schools Initiative is guided by Act 26 of 1995, as amended by Act 30 of 1997 and Act 36 of 1999, the Safe Schools Act. Since 1995, the Pennsylvania Department of Education has been awarding grants to schools and intermediate units throughout Pennsylvania to improve school safety and prevent violence. These grants are one element of Pennsylvania's efforts to support schools and communities in establishing safe and productive learning environments.
